Letter: Flooding problems
There is more to the flooding of the peninsula than a rising sea. Just ride around and look at all the paved driveways. None should have ever been paved until they met criteria for absorption of rainwater.
Every house with green space should have an above ground or below ground cistern. So much of our green space has disappeared since our city leaders carried a banner that an additional house should be built in every backyard. Just visit our city park, Dereef Park. It shrunk from green space to nothing. Hotels should be forced to use the rainwater their roofs catch.
What’s happening on the peninsula makes my blood boil. Developers know nothing about Southerners or about our love of the land and preserving our heritage. I am sick of all the people who move here and chip away at the fabric of our past.
